On Tending the Big Rock
Charlie was supposed to come over and scrape the mould off the large stone that Elaine and I have in the yard. It's been really rainy this, um, winter, and the moss accumulates in great quantities. Charlie's duties include cleansing the rock with a scrub brush, although the goddamn thing needs a solvent of some sort--could be a mild one, maybe just some detergent--but without elbow grease the mould's just gonna get worse. Charlie should've been by days ago; I don't know what he could be up to, if anything, but he certainly charges me enough for these services. Anyway, it's nice to know that my son David--he lives in Mexico with his wife and two, lovely daughters--thinks that a nice pool'd be nice to give the stone a sort of Chinese garden look. Need to go down to the Home Depot and get a small pump, but they charge an arm and a leg for the things if you ask me. Nobody asked me, but I offer this bit of advice: if you're gonna put a large rock in your yard, make sure it isn't porous limestone like the one I bought--which was on sale--as the mould tends to build up really fast.
